Why does it work? - These quotes are famous for a reason. In a few words, they convey numerous feelings, thoughts and emotions. Using this as a narrative hook will definitely arrest your reader into your mind through the author’s mind.

6. Figure of Speech

At the drop of a hat, I made that life changing decision. 

Why does it work? - Using a figure of speech such as an idiom, will bring out the uniqueness in your writing, thereby leaving the reader asking for more. The way a figure of speech delivers a message in another context is bound to tingle the reader’s curiosity.

7. Sounds (onomatopoeia)

Ssshhhhhhhhhhhhh! She exclaimed.

Why does it work? - Hearing a sound is normal, but writing a sound is unique and thus it draws attention towards the narrative. Use these sounds in your favour, for you never know when “aarrghhh”, “hahahaha”, “oops” steal the show away!

8. Numbers
